Character development via the Angst route

Okay, it's definitely getting hotter now. Spring is kicking into a higher gear, which unfortunately means my teeth will be getting kicked more frequently now

But good thing that's never stopped me from drawing, so *drops this on the table* 

 Grief, you lot have no idea how long it took me to find a halfway decent reference for Fear's pose. That awkward twisted and cowering position was possible! But not without banging my head against all the internet searches I could think of within the hour

Pretty pleased how it turned out tho, so I'd say that is worth it!

 *Confetti pop!* Tis the season of September! Which is something all of us have known for the last few weeks of our lives

HOWEVER! It is also the season for celebrating the birthday of this blog, a half-buried story full of loose threads and vibes, and also a character that I owe literally 90% of my artistic and writing skills to!

Friends and enemies, I give you: Ruby DeathDancer! Vamparoo extraordinaire!

 

Featuring Harland, because what's the point of a birthday party if nobody lets him dance with his spouse? XD

 Did I spend all morning doing this instead of eating lunch! Yup! But I'm pretty pleased I could keep up tradition this year with slightly more sleep and spirit.

Cheers to Ruby, who is arguably one of the most important characters I've got inside my head. You and your friends and family are far from forgotten. <3

The partly Fearful and mostly Disgusted

Well! The month of September has passed by quickly for me. Having a big comic project will do that to you, but also it's that time of year that makes me nostalgic for Undercover Vamparoo

I'm definitely planning to make a lil sketch to celebrate the 24th later, but until then: I have some more Inside Out stuff to offer tonight! 

 Since finishing my big IO comic project this week (31 pages in roughly 2 weeks), I was worried I'd be sick of drawing these guys for a little while... but nope! They still sparked joy, and I wanted to give them some more love and attention.

Windows of the Mind

Okay! So first time forgetting to post on my blog is understandable. Twice forgetting to do it is also understandable!
I think the third time means there's a new pattern forming. So you know what that means, right?

Panic after midnight and then realize you had enough time to draw something cool that's newer than any of the other things you drew this week! XD 

Drawing a bunch of stained glass windows with artsy spiderweb patterns on it with an incredibly bright source of light that's almost blinding you was very fun to draw. Definitely a good way to spend the evening, in my opinion!

 -AND once again I completely forgot to post on my blog after dinner! Second time in a row feels like it should be a crime, but you know what? That's fine! I still remembered before going to bed! 

SO HERE! HAZZUH! ROSE KNIGHT CONTENT!!!

I'm real pleased that I'm starting to get a feel for the other royal heirs now, which means I can draw them being supportive, weird, or weirdly supportive at each other!

Either way, drawing brightly colored idiots will always be a fun time for me XD  

Sleepover is just a frame of mind (we're pretending there's only one bed tonight)

All Sides of You (whever you go)

Been a busy week for me! Today feels like the first time I could properly drop some of my load and do nothing except what I wanted to do for the afternoon.

Still thinking a lot about my RK kids, in no small part to my big sister writing a ridiculous amounts of fanfiction about my characters in the first place. It's been fun getting stuck in a cycle of inspiration!

But sometimes you gotta step back and draw something that wasn't a chain reaction to anything except maybe some vibes that have started to cook in your head. This was one of them, for me! 

It's times like this that I'm incredibly grateful that past-me made the genius decision to give Jim orange freckles and yellow eyes! Which means no matter what color his hair is, he can still see every part of his soul reflected his reflection.

A little artistic symbolism with the two extreme versions of Jim's identity walking along with him don't hurt either XD 

It's not a crime if nobody sees you putting back what you didn't mean to steal in the first place

 Well!

I think my Rose Knights obsession is back into full swing again! That didn't take long XD 

I am going to credit and blame my big sister for writing so much fanfiction about all my characters literally almost every single day the past week. That was a major part of my newly fueled obsession, I think!

If the fact I'm still itching to draw more comics and sketches is any indication, I'm looking forward to see what the next week brings us all! 

Inside Out AU (swapping jobs!)

And just like that folks, July is over and August has begun!

For me personally, that means ArtFight is done for the year and now I am free to put my energies into personal projects and improving my art skills! Made a bunch of attacks I'm proud of, but now it's time to do literally anything else for the next 11 months of my life.
... it also means finding something with low stakes to exercise my storytelling muscles in a way, as to give me a chance to recover some proper energy before tackling the things I truly care about.

In shorter terms, I have made an Inside Out AU where almost all of Riley's emotions switch jobs but keep their core personalities. Because why not! XD

 

Since this idea is less than a few days old I've barely begun to realize the implications of making Fear be the "Joyful" one of the group (let alone the others with their new jobs) but safe to say I am enjoying myself! And it's gonna be nice to play with something which I don't have to care about 'making perfect' or even make sense for a hot minute.

We'll see how long this lasts! 

Lil Envy

 Tired. Head empty. Definitely ready for July to be over. But until it actually does end, I'mma do my best not to fall into any ditches or graves.

Envy will absolutely do his best to steal more jackets though, and I adore him for it XD

RK sketches (the Hairdye trio and the royal half-brothers)

Right! It's usually at this point in the month that I realize that I've been pushing myself hard trying to draw attacks for AF, so I gotta remember it's okay to slow down and stop for a few days before picking up speed for the final leg of the month.

I'm proud of what I've accomplished so far, but gotta remember to sleep and play video games too. Just a little bit.

Oooooor just draw some of my RK kids! That also works too, in my humble and not biased opinion XD

Fear and Joy (Gif)

 Another busy of ArtFight done and dusted! I'm pretty pleased with what I've done so far, and now that I've had a proper Sabbath break I'm almost ready to attack someone new!

Until then though, here's a lil gif I made..... apparently two weeks ago? and then completely forgot I made! Like you do XD 

This is the first gif I've made that's truly colorful, so I'm pretty proud how it turned out!

StarDust Nerds (2)

June is slowly coming to a close now. Been a busy month for me, what with preparing character sheets for ArtFight and drawing comics about one of my favorite movies (amongst other things)

But as much as I've enjoyed the challenges I've overcome the last few weeks and the upcoming shenanigans I am excited to participate in, I realized I also needed to slow down and do something purely for myself sometimes. No pressure to preform or do good or anything like that.

So I decided to indulge in an activity I've had for the last few months: remaking something with my current art skills.

Roughly 4 years apart from each other. 2025 - 2021

 Safe to say I am reasonably pleased with my artistic development over the years. Still learning and improving, obviously! But it's nice to look at one of my old and most favorite art pieces and then recreate it into a new favorite artwork I can enjoy for the next few years.

Sunlight and Foreshadowing

Well! Guess who just spent the whole week drawing *checks notes* practically ten pages of comics and a few little sketches besides that?

Yeah, I know right! In hindsight I'm still processing the fact I did all of that too!
But to be fair, when the inspiration hits and the hyperfixation bites your ankle what else are you supposed to do?

 If I had to pick a favorite page I drew tho, I think I'd pick this one.

Only because it took me over an hour to get that blasted clock right, AND I had to fix it a few times because needing to get the correct time in reverse was maybe a little harder than expected. Also the lighting still pleases me.

Added and Fractured

 Had a long week

Got all the RK character sheets I needed to do, though! With a good few weeks before ArtFight started too, no less! So that's good.

Still thinking about the stitchpunks though, so I know exactly what I'm going to be doing with every second of my spare time for June.

RIGHT! So I just spent most of my week making character sheets getting ready for Art Fight this year, and I got them all done! Mostly! And that's really cool because I wasn't expecting it to be done so fast!

However! It also means I've had no extra time to do other sketches, so I've had to pull up a random thing I drew last week instead- which is fine with me, because these lil guys still spark joy 

Stitchpunks my beloved, you will never not be fun to draw. Especially when your personalities get mashed together by the forces of science XD

Dyed hair and Dragon eyes

 Well! That was a week I had!

Was it busy? *so-so gesture* I'm always busy, but I think this week I was more busy burning out and realizing I needed to rest some more before trying to go back to all of the projects and ideas I've got in my head.

I played Pokerogue a lot, and even checked out some of the fanfic writing I made in 2023! So even if I didn't achieve anything impressive, I had fun and I'm intending to revisit old stories just to stretch my brain while my creativity takes a break.

In the meantime, I'm glad I seem to always have a surplus of doodles and sketches to share every week! So enjoy the Dragon Eyed duo!

Sapphire Sea

okay so I knew I was tired today, but forgetting to post on my blog until after midnight. Hm! maybe I am as tired as I think I am XD

Anyway! I drew a UV thing earlier this week, so I'mma throw that into the void and go get my midnight snack

For something that was just meant to keep my hands busy, I'm pretty pleased how this turned out

Tara Fight Stance (gif)

 Whelp! My obsession about making little gifs has reached it's climax! I've now made one for every main character in RK!

I'm proud of them all for different reasons, but I think the one I made for Tara ended up being the most technically challenging one. Which means it's also the one I like the most XD

 The hair fwishing and bright yellow colors make me very happy. Lookat her go! <3
