Pep Talk (Sketch Comic)

Not much tonight, guys. Ended up taking a break from any serious drawing this week. Focused mostly on my mental and emotional health. I'm a little more stable now, I've got a lot of ground to cover.

Did sketch this out yesterday, though. Self-indulgent, but therapeutic.

Been playing around with the Inside Out concept a lot lately. Trying to use it as a means to explore my Anxiety and ADD brain, as well as some other things.
Mostly stuff I've only recently been allowing myself to acknowledge or accept.

With any luck these guys will help me sort some confusing brain nonsense. Or at least all my suppressed emotions... *thumbs up*

Eyes refuse to focus. I'mma leave now.
Bye-bye! Enjoy your little scruffy Disgust and ever-worried Fear. :)

Rooftop Run

Hello, there!
Got another UV picture this evening. :)

Midnight with the Castle Trio - Flavio the cockatoo, Rex the Kitsune, and Mouse (technically Maisie, but nobody calls her that) the mouse/polar-bear hybrid.

Flavio was found on Midnight's doorstep one late spring morning with a rather awful note from his parents stating that if Midnight wouldn't take care of him they'd just... do a lot of awful things and abandon Flavio somewhere else, because they didn't want him.
Midnight wasn't comfortable with the idea of looking after a 2 year old child, but he definitely didn't want to leave him out in the world with an even worse future. So he took him in.

Not even two days later Midnight was asking Ruby for parenting advice.
Years later Flavio gets officially adopted (with some encouragement from Midnight's parents), and is now first in line for the throne.

Half a decade later, Rex becomes part of castle life! No one knows when or where he came from; Ruby just noticed there was one more kid than normal running around in the garden one afternoon, and asked Midnight when they decided to take in another kid. Midnight almost fell out of the window craning his neck trying to see who Ruby meant... then admitted he assumed Rex was one of the local church orphanage children. Ruby didn't agree.

One interrogation later, and Rex admits he's been hanging out in the castle for months, but didn't want any of the grown ups to know he was here...
And long story short, Flavio gets a new brother!
They annoy and prank each other a lot, and like trying to traumatize each other. (Flavio with his mind-controlling ability, and Rex with his illusion magic...)
When they're older they actually become a pretty good team.
Well, they can keep the castle budget together, so it's something...

Now Mouse... actually isn't one of Midnight's children. She just lives with him for the school term, and goes back to her parents for the holidays. But she's still a big part of the castle...

She's the straight-man to all Flavio and Rex's shenanigans, but she can keep them in line when she wants to.

Anyway.
I'd say more, but I'm getting tired now. Don't feel like typing anymore.
I'll call it a day and get something to eat now.

*Brushbrushbrush*

Hm. Another post including Sapphire in it?
I ain't complaining. :)

Wanted to finally draw Violet - Sapphire's mother - for once.

A good mum who encourages her daughter's rebellious nature.
Where did you think Sapphire got her spunk and complete disregard for useless laws from? :)

"You want to stop wearing skirts and dresses and wear pants instead? Okay, dear."
"What's that? You'd like to dye your hair yellow? Hm. Mum and dad wouldn't like that... Sure, honey. I'll give you a hand."
"You're pretending to be gay to get out of having to find a real boyfriend for your grandparent's 50th Anniversary? Sounds reasonable. I'll backup your story."

Now that I have a real excuse to explore Violet's history a bit more, I'm having fun thinking of all the possible mother-daughter moments with Sapphire. Whether cohesive or not. :)

"Sapphire Dara DeathDancer, you haven't visited or called your mother in years!"
"Mum, you are literally 26; I haven't even been born yet!"

Hybrid Kangaroos with Time Travel Powers - It's a Family Occupation

GUYS
GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS

You know how I've been complaining for years that I have no idea what Sapphire's been doing with her life after she left high-school??

I'VE FINALLY FOUND OUT WHAT SAPPHIRE'S BEEN DOING

GUYS

SHE'S A TIME TRAVELER!
SAPPHIRE'S A TIME TRAVELER TOO!!!

On the one hand this raises so many more questions but THIS ALSO EXPLAINS SO MUCH!
(Sorry, I'm just so excited about learning this, like WOW GIRL, I did not expect this from you)

Okay. So, how I found out about this is kinda... well, it made sense at the time, but trying to recount the tale might get confusing. So please bear with me, because I actually really want to write this down as a note to my future self.

*deep breath*

Alright. So it all started a few nights ago when me and my sister were talking about UV. I think we were jumping from one topic to another more than actually talking about anything specific? Because it's so easy to do in UV..
Anyway. Long story short, my sister had a light-bulb moment and started to explain a possible explanation for why we never see Sapphire in the mainstream story. This explanation included Morgana the Fey hiring Sapphire to do a little job and it ending BADLY.
Badly enough so that Sapphire was at death's door due to a HORRENDOUS injury, and Morgana saving Sapphire by giving her some of her blood.

Now. A funny thing about blood in UV - normally fairy blood has a lot of magical healing properties with no further side effects apart from causing you to sparkle or maybe have a third eye for a few hours. That's cool, and usually harmless. If you're not a Vampire...
If your a Vampire and drink fairy blood, you will get something Weird with a capital W in your magic system that could range from "My fur can glow and change colour" to "I can summon Cthulhu with my mind". And there's no way of telling what you're gonna get.

And for those that have stuck around for long enough or remember, Sapphire is half-vampire. But she thought she couldn't access the Vampic side of her genes (and she was right; it was a dormant part of her), so she's never relied or depended on it. As far as she is concerned, she was UnMythic.

But fey magic don't care what you can or can't do. It reacted to the fact that Sapphire had some Vampire in her, and it latched onto it and gifted her with the power of Time Travel and Teleportation.
... to put it simply and shortly.

Sapphire had to spend a few productive hours screaming in the forest to get used to the idea of being immortal before visiting Grandma to ask for help. And Grandma in turn asking Aeron, because he's the expert on stuff like this.

Cue Aeron going through the stages of grief, dying of laughter, screeching in Spanish, and banging his head against the wall with muffled screams of "I should've know I should've know I SHOULD'VE KNOWN-" in the span of five minutes. Then extending his hand to shake Sapphire's, and saying "Welcome to the club."

Young-Aeron hasn't even been born at this time yet, so Sapphire has no idea she's joining forces with her future nephew. But I'm getting ahead of myself...

This explains why Sapphire rarely visits Ruby anymore. Not because she can't or doesn't want too, but because Sapphire no longer ages at a coherent rate anymore, and she feels like that would raise Questions.
But Ruby has some massive blind-spots and assumes the reason why Sapphire still looks like she's 25 when she's nearly 40 is because she never had to deal with the stress of keeping a kingdom stable or raising kids. Or keep Midnight from running amok.

Also Ruby has a time-traveler for a son.

So when she DOES figure it out a few more years later, it's more *disappointed "I thought you were better than this" look* than *Shocked Disbelief*.
After that Sapphire visits a lot more often. Technically.
Time Travel is fun like that. :)

ANYWAY. I think I'm coming to the end of my rant... Um, it's probably not worded very well, but I'm so excited about this new development that I think it doesn't matter if no one else understands.

When I start making UV comics it'll look much better.
(Whenever THAT may be)

Sooo... yeah!
How's your week been?
